CMA Awards 2022: An overview of the top prizes

Country music hosted an event on Wednesday as the CMA Awards were presented.

First-time honoree Lainey Wilson topped the list of nominees for the upcoming Grammy Awards and ended up the evening with major wins, including new artist of the year and female vocalist of the year.

The emotional Wilson made in a single speech: I'm going to do my best not to disappoint you all. I promise.

Luke Combs also had a good night, taking the stage as both a performer and winner. Combs won the coveted Entertainer of the Year award and Album of the Year award.

The night began with a moving tribute to Loretta Lynn, with Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood taking the stage together. Jerry Lee Lewis, who died last month at age 87, was also honored in a performance by Elle King and the Black Keys.

Other entertainers include Kelly Clarkson who performed with Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce and Luke Bryan, who performed with Peyton Manning as both host and entertainer.

A number of other artists, including Dierks Bentley and Wilson, attended to honor the recipient of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.
